Punctuation and (Symbols and Rules of Punctuation)

Introduction

In this post, you will know about Punctuation.

Punctuation marks are important in both written and spoken English, Punctuation marks help to express the intended meaning of the sentence and denote the pauses, and intonations to be used when reading aloud.

Full Stop-(.) Usually used at the end of a sentence, after abbreviations such as etc., a.m. p.m., for words like 'Goodbye.' 'All right.' 'Hi.', after titles like Mr., Mrs., Dr. etc., and for decimal points like 6.3%.

Examples : 
1) It is my bicycle. (at the end of the sentance)
2) The sales rose by 6.3% (decimal)

Question Mark-(?) Usually used at the end of an interrogative sentence, in a series of questions and to end a tag question.

Examples :
1) Are you going to Delhi? (ends a direct question)
2) Where are you going? (ends a direct question)

Comma-(,) Usually used to denote a pause in a sentence, to separate a series of words in a sentence, to separate a series of phrases in a sentence, to separate that part of a sentence that can be removed without changing the meaning of the sentence and to separate the quoted parts from the rest of the sentence.

Examples:

1) Amita completed her work, packed her bag, set her uniform and went to bed. (separate series of phrases)
2) Ram, Dev, Jaya and Rohini went for a picnic. (separate series of words) 

Exclamation Mark-(!) Used to denote shock, surprise, anger or a raised voice.

Examples :

1) Shut up! I don't want to hear anything.
2) What! He faild the test.
